Publishing Perspectives has an article about a new online eBook service called ValoBox. The service converts EPUB 2.x eBooks into HTML. Users
can purchase any portion of any eBook, from a single page to the
entire title. The purchased eBooks are then stored in the cloud for the
user, where they can read them with desktop or notebook computers,
tablets and smartphones.
Publishers get 60% of the sale price. Whoever refers the customer,
whether it be another consumer or the publisher itself, gets 25% of the
sale price as a referral fee. ValoBox retains 15% of the sale price as a
commission. Their primary publishing partner is O'Reilly, which is
offering selected titles from its collection, as well as Microsoft Press
and Yahoo Press.
